Missourians Improving Their State Parks
In 2001, a new initiative called Missourians Improving Their State Parks was launched. The initiative earmarked a portion of the campsite fee for campground improvements. The projects listed below are supported by state park users through this new initiative and capital improvement funds provided by the parks-and-soils sales tax.
Campsite Improvements
The following are major campground improvements recently completed.
- St. Joe State Park has added 25 new 50-amp electric campsites.
- Onondaga Cave State Park campground has been completely remodeled and now features 66 new campsites; 48 of these campsites offer 50-amp electric service and water hookups.
- Table Rock State Park has added 11 new campsites that feature sewer, 50-amp electric service and water.
The following campground improvement is currently under construction.
- Renovation of Campground 1 at Bennett Spring State Park
Electrification Projects
To meet visitor demands for electric campsites, 50-amp electric service has been added to more than 450 campsites at the following state parks.
- Arrow Rock State Historic Site - 15 campsites
- Sam A. Baker State Park - 25 campsites
- Lake Wappapello State Park - 32 campsites
- Lewis and Clark State Park - 20 campsites
- Long Branch State Park - 20 campsites
- Mark Twain State Park - 19 campsites
- Meramec State Park - 99 campsites
- Montauk State Park - 55 campsites
- Pomme de Terre State Park - 81 campsites
- Stockton State Park - 15 campsites
- Table Rock State Park - 36 campsites
- Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site - 19 campsites
- Weston Bend State Park - 15 campsites
Electrification projects are currently scheduled for Lake of the Ozarks, Trail of Tears, St. Francois, Wakonda and Harry S Truman state parks.
Showerhouse Improvements

The following state parks offer new or renovated showerhouses.
- Crowder State Park (new)
- Roaring River State Park (renovated and expanded)
- St. Francois State Park (renovated and expanded)
- St. Joe State Park (renovated and expanded)
- Table Rock State Park (new)
- Wallace State Park (new)
- Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site (new)
- Washington State Park (renovation and expansion scheduled)
Camper Cabins
In an effort to meet the growing demand for additional lodging opportunities and to provide a unique log cabin experience, camper cabins have been added at the following state parks.
- Lake Wappapello State Park (later in 2007)
- Mark Twain State Park
- Stockton State Park
