Spooking up the Park

The crew at Annie and Abel Van Meter State Park invites you to attend the park’s fifth annual Spooking up the Park Halloween event! Activities will include crafts, a costume contest, a campsite decorating contest, trick-or-treating, and more!

Attention:

You must register for the costume contest between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. in order to participate.

Campers wanting to participate in the decorating contest should register with the campground host.

Campsite decorations must be family friendly and shall not deface park resources (e.g., no painting of grass or covering trees with toilet paper).

Event schedule:

• 2-4 p.m. – Crafts at Shelter 1
• 2-3:30 p.m. – Costume contest registration at Shelter 1
• 3 p.m. – Decorations due for campsite decorating contest
  • Judging will take place in the evening.
• 4 p.m. – Costume contest judging begins in the campground
  • Winners will be announced in the campground approximately one hour after judging concludes.
• 5 p.m. – Trick-or-treating begins throughout the park
• 5 p.m. – Haunted hike for families with small children begins in the campground
• 6:30 p.m. – Haunted hike for other attendees begins in the campground; will continue throughout the evening in 20-to-30-minute rotations
• 7 p.m. – Campfire in the campground

Regular camping fees apply, but the event itself is free. For more information, contact the park office at 660-886-7537.
