Special-Use Area

at Thousand Hills State Park

The special-use camping area is designated for group camping, with nonprofit organizations and youth groups having priority. The total capacity of the special-use area is 100. The site is equipped with a fire ring and picnic tables. A portable toilet and potable water are available in this area during the on-season. The showerhouse is located in Campground 2, approximately one-tenth of a mile from the special-use area.

The fee for use of the area is $2 per person, per night. For more information or to reserve the area for your group, call 660-665-6995.

On the following days (actual or observed), staff will not be available and park buildings will be closed: Thanksgiving Day; Nov. 24, 2023; Christmas Eve; Christmas Day; New Year’s Eve; New Year’s Day; Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Lincoln’s Birthday; and Presidents Day. 

Day-Use Areas:

  • April through October (On-Season)
    7 a.m. to 10 p.m., daily
  • November through March (Off-Season)
    7 a.m. to sunset, daily

The day-use area gates close at these times.

Park Office hours

The office telephone is monitored for messages between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., daily, year-round.

Please note there may be times when the office is closed while staff are working in the park.
