6/11/2022 | Prairie State Park | Mindenmines, MO

Hey, ladies! Have you ever wanted to explore the great outdoors, but did not know where to begin? Come to Prairie State Park for Women in Nature’s half-day experience to learn some new skills, taught by all female instructors.

Date: June 11, 2022

9 a.m. to noon

Prairie State Park visitor center

Age Requirements:

Participants must be at least 10 years of age. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

  • Guided Hike (moderate/high*)
Guided hike on the prairie learning about prairie animals, plans, ecology and plant uses by Native Americans. This will entail walking on the prairie over uneven terrain, with little to no shade.
  • Nature Journaling (low*)
Documenting what you come across out in nature using lists and drawings is a great way to help make your time in nature more memorable. Join us on a short walk around the picnic area and on the prairie; get tips on how to use your journal to create those memories while enjoying nature. Journals, pencils and colored pencils will be provided, but feel free to bring your own supplies!

*Physical Activity Guide:

Please be advised that WIN: Women in Nature programs are outdoor activities. Participants will be walking on tread surfaces at times that contain roots or embedded rocks and may have elevation changes.

To help participants anticipate each course and know what physical levels to expect of each class, a physical activity rating system has been created. Listed in the class description you will find a physical level rating for each course.

  • Low: requires minimal physical skill/endurance (example: lecture-based and hands-on activities in a classroom)
  • Moderate: requires moderate physical skill/endurance (example: lecture-based and hands-on activities while standing and short walks)
  • High: requires high levels of skill/endurance (example: lecture-based and hands-on activities while standing, hiking, lifting and full-body movement)
