Creative Nature Journal Workshops – Learn about and try out new tips, tricks and tools

Join park staff and a guest speaker to explore the world of nature journaling. Each workshop will meet at the Terrapin Station Shelter in the day-use area. All workshops will start at 10 a.m. and end at noon. Each workshop will focus on a new skill and or trick to enhance your journaling experience. We will learn together and from each other. Bring your own journal, whether it is one that you will use all year or one just for these workshops and a since of wonder. ALL workshops will be held outdoors in nature.

Event Dates and Topics:

March 18: Phenology what it is and how to incorporate it into nature journaling 

In this workshop, we will set up a phenology wheel using the helix tool, an angle and circle maker. Choose a plant to observe throughout the year and make the first entry. We will also touch on field guides.

June 17: Watercolor pencils versus regular colored pencils  

Color exploration – experiment with different methods of adding color to your journal. There will be time to update your phenology wheel. We will explore the area for a plants and animals to journal about. Field guides will be available; feel free to bring your own as well.

Sept. 9: Guest speaker Angie Jungbluth

Angie will share some of the tips and tricks that she uses in her journaling adventures and will answer any questions that you might have about nature journaling. There will also be time set aside to work on your phenology wheel.

Dec. 16: Wrap it all up – the last entry of the phenology wheel

What have we learned? Talk about nature journaling in the winter and some of the challenges and how to overcome them. Time to journal!!!
