Mudlick Mountain Tower Tours

9/11/2021 | Sam A. Baker State Park | Patterson, MO

Sam A. Baker State Park is a place of distinct natural history, beauty and value. Even before becoming a park, the area attracted people because of its grand peaks, clear streams and forest diversity. Join us as we explore the past 200 years of what is now Sam A. Baker State Park. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with registration for van tours beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Start your adventure with a guided van ride to the Mudlick Mountain Fire Tower. From the tower, you have the choice of riding the van on the return trip or continuing with a hike down Mudlick Mountain to discover the unique geology of the St. Francois Mountains. Pass waterfalls and bluffs, and relax at a historic CCC-built shelter featuring the breathtaking overlook of Big Creek. Other activities for the day will include a letterboxing challenge, old-time games, activities and more!

Finish off the day by relaxing to great music, fun company and a little comedy from the Whitewater Bluegrass Band. Whitewater, in its 15th year as a group, is an upbeat bluegrass band that plays old traditional and new bluegrass music. So come on down and enjoy a good old-fashioned, toe tappin’ time. We encourage you to practice social distancing by bringing your own chair or blanket to sit on.

Be prepared for rugged, steep terrain if you choose to hike the trail down from the fire tower. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring plenty of snacks and water. All activities start at the visitor center.
