Archaeology Day

Archaeology Day will feature a variety of activities. Participants can learn from the Missouri Atlatl Association members how an ancient spear thrower called an atlatl is made, and then test their skills using it. The Missouri Department of Conservation will provide the opportunity to learn about Missouri mammals and to see their fur pelts. A Missouri State Parks archaeologist will be on hand to talk about preservation efforts at Graham Cave. The event will also feature a collection of historical pictures and artifacts from the area, courtesy of the Graham family descendants and the Montgomery County Historical Society, along with artifacts from the early excavations at Graham Cave, courtesy of the University of Missouri's Department of Anthropology. Children can enjoy a variety of activities, including archaeology-related activity sheets provided by the Montgomery County Retired School Personnel Association.
