Point and Shoot Nature Photography Workshop

6/4/2016 | Cuivre River State Park | Troy, MO

Do you need a professional DSLR and thousands of dollars worth of lenses to take great pictures? Not necessarily. A lot of what goes into making a good photograph is behind the camera! This class, taught by Missouri Department of Conservation photographer Dan Zarlenga, will explore ways to take compelling nature photographs using a compact, fixed lens camera, also known as a point and shoot.  But we won’t be just pointing and shooting!  We’ll look at how elements of composition, finding good subjects, seeking out unique perspectives, and waiting for the right light can reward you with satisfying images. We’ll talk about a few basic accessories that can help you get the shots you want without spending tons of money - all without getting too technical.  Of course, these same tips will help even if you do have a DSLR and thousands in lenses.

After a classroom presentation and discussion, we’ll head out to practice by taking advantage of the beauty of Cuivre River State Park and late afternoon light. Bring your camera and dress for the outdoors.

Space is limited and reservations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants should bring their camera and come prepared for a short hike. Water and snacks are recommended.
