Join park staff for the first Halloween Spooktacular. The park will feature family-friendly activities and programs all day that will get you into the Halloween mood and will feature many live animals often associated with Halloween. This event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required for the hayrides, as space is limited. Reservations are not required for any other activities. For visitors camping in the park, there will be a campsite decorating contest and trick or treating for the kids. The Cuivre River Halloween Spooktacular will feature the following activities:
10 a.m.
Halloween Sidewalk Art in the campground near the showerhouse. Sidewalk chalk will be provided.
Noon
Lunch with a Bat - Kirsten Alvey-Mudd, founder of Missouri Bat Census, will present a program about bats featuring several bats native to Missouri. Alvey-Mudd not only studies bats, but is a licensed rehabilitation specialist. Come out to the recreation hall in Camp Sherwood and see these amazing insect-eating machines up close! Bring your own sack lunch, and the park will provide snacks that are made possible because of bats.
2-5 p.m.
Halloween Hayrides on Cheatham Road - Park staff will take you on a fun and informative naturalist-led hayride tour down Cheatham Road. Learn about some of the park’s history and take in the views from Frenchman’s Bluff. The ride will last approximately 30 minutes and is by reservation only. You must call the park office to reserve your spot on a ride. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for their safety. To reserve a spot, call the park office at 636-528-7247.
6 p.m.
Wings of the Night - Educators from Raptor Rehabilitation Project will join us at the amphitheater with live owls and a couple other special bird of prey guests. A shuttle will be available from the beach parking lot to the campground for visitors who are not camping that weekend.
7 p.m.
Costume Contest -Visitors are encouraged to wear costumes and participate in a costume contest. Winners will be announced after the Wings of the Night program. Winners of the campsite decorating contest will also be revealed.
