Juneteenth: History of a Holiday

6/19/2024 to 6/23/2024 | Felix Vallé House State Historic Site | Ste. Genevieve, MO

Felix Vallé House State Historic Site is proud to celebrate Juneteenth 2024 with Juneteenth: History of a Holiday. Through interactive stations and hands-on activities, this event will bring families and friends together to learn Missouri history!

Free self-guided tours and activities are open to the public and will be available in the Shaw House June 19-23, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Shaw House is located at 200 Merchant St. in Ste. Genevieve.

At 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, the site will offer a live showing of “Juneteenth: Faith and Freedom.” Juneteenth, declared a federal holiday in 2021, had already been celebrated by many, though its cultural and spiritual significance remains widely unknown to non-celebrants. This film offers an opportunity to explore the story of Juneteenth, understand the holiday, and find inspiration in its significance.

The film highlights how hope has endured from 1865 to the present. In doing so, it offers an important story for the discouraged and the hopeful, Black and white, skeptics and saints, revealing how Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom and faith in the midst of struggle.

Preregistration for “Juneteenth: Faith and Freedom” is strongly encouraged and can be completed by visiting icampmo.com, selecting the “Activities” tab, and then searching for “Juneteenth.” Only 50 seats are available; preference will be given to those who preregister. The showing is free and will be held at 200 Merchant St. Look for signage.
