Hikers' Comments on North Ridge Trail
Weston Bend State Park
| Month Hiked | Comments from participants of the 2007 Trail of the Month Program | |
| September 2007 | This was a nice walk through the woods. We spotted a couple of deer in the distance (at least their white tails as they ran through the woods!). We enjoyed a picnic lunch at the end of this trail. It was nice to get to do two hikes in one park. My only complaint about this program is the amount of time we've spent in the car driving from one park to another. | |
| August 2007 | You might be tempted to turn back halfway through, but the view at the end of the trail is worth the walk. | |
| July 2007 | This has been our favorite hike so far. A very secluded trail with easy hills and lots of trees. I'm planning on coming back to repeat the hike when the leaves change in the fall. | |
| July 2007 | I didn't realize how high up we climbed until we turned around to hike out. The views from the ridge were great -- this is my favorite hike of the 10 or so we've done so far. | |
| July 2007 | Nice view of the Missouri Valley is your reward for completing this hike. Enjoyed the new picnic facilities afterwards. | |
| July 2007 | This trail is nice and shady until you reach the ridge. We found it well maintained and in good condition. After reading about the road closing in previous logs, we were a bit concerned. All roads were open and the improvements are obvious if you've visited the park before. The new picnic area is so inviting we took advantage of it after our hike. | |
| June 2007 | This trail has a beautiful canopy, although the undergrowth was overwhelming in parts. It was a little confusing as to where the trail ended. We followed it until we got to what appeared to be a service road before we turned around. I was glad we had our bug spray. | |
| June 2007 | Wear long pants because of weeds and thorns. This hike was very natural with very little upkeep. It was interesting to see the old farm equipment that was left along the trail. | |
| June 2007 | This trail really makes you feel like you are out in the wilderness. It is not paved and there was a lot of brush right in the middle of the trail to step over. You probably need your hiking boots for this one. Once you reach the end, you turn around and go back the same way you came in. Be sure to wear your bug spray and check for ticks afterward. Pretty good trail if you like the feeling of being out. | |
| June 2007 | Too many mosquitoes for me. Maybe just because of the recent rains. We felt like we danced while hiking. The road leading to the trail was closed, which added an additional two miles to the hike. | |
| May 2007 | We had to hike about a mile because the road was closed for construction that lead to the trailhead. It was all down hill to get to the trail so coming back was a good workout. | |
| May 2007 | On my hike, I experienced greenery galore! A light rain fell continuously, making the air humid and the path muddy, but that's all part of the adventure. We also battled a few mosquitoes and came across a large patch of wild mushrooms. Additionally, the scattered rusty machinery along the trail added to the dream-like atmosphere. |
