Hikers' Comments on Lake View Bend Trail
Lake of the Ozarks State Park

Month Hiked Comments from participants of the 2007 Trail of the Month Program
Comment: September 2007 It was one of the best trails to hike. Nice lake views.
Comment: September 2007 Use caution around the east side of the trail. The ground is slanted and uneven most of the way, but the view of the lake and the limestone walls are worth it. In the afternoon, it's even better because the sun is so low and hiking in the shade is much cooler and more pleasant. The west side was a pretty easy walk, too; and it's very convenient to access if you're camping anywhere in the park.
Comment: September 2007 Narrow, fairly rugged trail along the hillside with a nice view of the lake for about the first half of the hike, with the second half winding through the campground area away from the lake. It was less scenic, although we did see four deer very close to the trail in this area.
Comment: August 2007 Easy trail to hike with some good views of Lake of the Ozarks. Spotted several deer and squirrels as well as some chipmunks on this trail.
Comment: August 2007 Be prepared for a pleasant but somewhat rugged hike. I wouldn't recommend taking small children as there are some steep drop-offs. We saw nine deer, three of them mature bucks and we were able to get up close to most of them.
Comment: August 2007 Hike when it's cool outside; it's not as much fun if it's 92 degrees!
Comment: July 2007 There was, indeed, a beautiful view of the lake. We enjoyed seeing some petrified wood on the trail and seeing some wildlife we don't see in our backyard.
Comment: July 2007 Nice and easy trail that goes along the side of the lake (but up on the hillside so watch young children!). However, don't be so distracted by the steepness going down to the lake that you miss the cool rock outcropping up the hill. Also, watch out for a tree that looks like a "4."
Comment: July 2007 I enjoyed the serenity of walking along with the lake on one side and the rock bluffs on the other. This trail was very shady due to the tree cover. This time of the year, we saw several butterflies.
Comment: July 2007 This trail was a beautiful walk along the bluffs that border the lake. The shade provided by the trees made the walk comfortable. We could also see and hear people enjoying boating fun on the lake.
Comment: July 2007 Terrific hike in the shady woods and along side the lake. Sighted eight deer -- two young ones and six adults -- in various places along the trail. Also saw a lazy red fox, several chipmunks and many many squirrels. For fun, you can stamp your trail book with the Lake of the Ozarks stamp at the park office (just outside the door).
Comment: July 2007 This trail was very well marked. The first half-mile was somewhat strenuous for my knees because of the steps going down the hill and the walk along the steep cliffs. Saw one red fox; eight deer (two which were very young), many squirrels and a few chipmunks. A very enjoyable hike.
Comment: June 2007 This walking trail was very pretty. We enjoyed walking around the bluff. We saw lots of deer that were so tame they didn't even move as we walk by. I saw lots of combine flowers that were blooming. I raise these flowers at home. This was so amazing.
Comment: June 2007 Very steep trail; be careful of footing. Neat rocks, pretty view of the lake. Saw three deer resting near the trail (let us walk right by). Lots of chipmunks. Fun trail, seemed like a nice place to camp!
Comment: June 2007 A very nice park I was unaware of. Lots of wildlife. We saw deer (very close up) lizards, turtles, chipmunks. A fun trail, a little steep at times. Make sure to take the bug spray -- lots of ticks!
Comment: June 2007 I thought this was one of the more challenging trails that we have walked so far. A walking stick would be handy for this trail.
Comment: June 2007 This trail is very awesome but be careful as it is a little narrow path and you are trying to look up the cliffs and down at the lake so it makes you a bit unbalanced. Make sure to go on the other half. We saw 13 deer and 11 different kinds of mushrooms and lots of flowers.
Comment: June 2007 The steps made the descent so much easier. Trail was easy walking. Nice wildflowers, variety of trees, views across the lake -- the bluffs and "island of waterlilies."
Comment: June 2007 The steps made the descent so much easier. Trail was easy walking -- confusing in places. More trail markers would have helped. Nice views of lake and bluffs.
Comment: June 2007 We spotted a doe and two spotted fawns on the trail and they did not seem afraid of us and we have some good pictures of them. It's a killer hike for older out-of-shape people. Beautiful views of the lake.
Comment: May 2007 I hiked Lake View Bend Trail twice because I didn't see the clue the first time! I saw ten deer as I hiked, which was quite a pleasant distraction so I didn't mind repeating the hike. You might miss the clue if you are watching your footing as you hike along the narrow trail!
Comment: May 2007 This trail is aptly named; great views of the lake. It is completely in the park campground. Lots of squirrels and chipmunks.
Comment: May 2007 We had to hike this trail twice--the first time we missed the clue. I think this happened because we were distracted by the 10 deer we saw while hiking this trail. We saw a doe with two fawns, a group of five young adults, and three singles.
Comment: May 2007 It was a healthy walk with nice views of the lake. Bring along some water!
Comment: May 2007 It took 50 minutes to walk this beautiful trail. A lot of foliage and uneven paths, but well worth the trip. Saw beautiful bluffs, two deer, a turtle and many fallen trees from the last storm.
Comment: May 2007 Lots of wildlife and beautiful views of a very full lake.
Comment: May 2007 Rugged, not in the best shape. Have to watch your step, so you can't look around unless you stop all the time.
