Hikers' Comments on River Forks Trail
Crowder State Park

Month Hiked Comments from participants of the 2007 Trail of the Month Program
Comment: August 2007 Had my grandson along. Two toads, lots of downed limbs across the trail. A few deer tracks in bottom areas. Weather was not hot with a slight breeze. A couple of rain drops fell. Heard a woodpecker.
Comment: July 2007 According to our GPS we actually walked 2.25 miles. This was the most rugged hike we've done so far; we needed walking sticks for this one! Several steep inclines and switchbacks led us in and out of deep gullies. Who knew we'd find this kind of lush woodland in the middle of the prairie? Watch out for poison ivy along the narrow parts of the trail.
Comment: June 2007 Tree canopied trail. Makes for a nice hike in the cool air of the morning.
Comment: June 2007 This trail has a few more hills than you would expect. It is a very pleasant hike with the trail being very well marked.
Comment: May 2007 Cardinals, nuthatches and bluejays were singing to us. Lots of hungry mosquitoes. It had recently flooded.
Comment: May 2007 Very natural and easy walk. We saw a deer running through the timber.
Comment: May 2007 We really enjoyed this trail as it is more of a challenge to walk. Be sure to watch for the mosquitoes when down in the bottom area. They were thick the day we walked the trail.
Comment: May 2007 Was a moderate rise to the top of the ridge. Going down was a much smoother hike. Take your time and enjoy the woods.
Comment: May 2007 We loved this hike. It was shady all the way with a beautiful look at Missouri woods. We scared up two deer on the top of the ridge. Would highly recommend this hike to anyone who wants to get away from it all. While at the park, we checked out the campground and found the shower facilities very nice, as well as the beach changing house.
Comment: May 2007 Very nice shade filled hike. Well marked, AND there is both a locator map and printed maps, but you do not need either. It seemed very quick to me.
Comment: May 2007 A nice easy to follow hike in the woods. A couple of ups and downs and few rocks so watch your step. About half way the trails stays high. If you take the lower trail at that point it will reconnect with the higher trail in about a quarter mile. The lower trail can be real wet. In the park there are a few other trails of this length so you could spend a day getting in seven or eight miles.
Comment. May 2007 Easy hike, peaceful and quiet, all woods, one group of picnic tables but no other benches, nice view of rivers and lake from trail. Part of trail had been under water recently and was extremely muddy. Seems like more than two miles.
