Hikers' Comments on Indian Point Trail
Pomme de Terre State Park

Month Hiked Comments from participants of the 2007 Trail of the Month Program
Comment: November 2007 This trail is very beautiful in the fall. The leaves on the trees were various colors. The views of the lake at times were nice. Walking out on Indian Point was fun. Thanks for the blue paint to guide us; in many places, we would have lost our way. (We counted 116.)
Comment: October 2007 This is a very well-marked trail through the woods along the shore of Pomme de Terre Lake with great views of the dam and lake from the tip of Indian Point.
Comment: August 2007 Indian Point is a peninsula of rock outcroppings overlooking the lake across from the dam. After the trail leads to Indian Point, the rest of the trail goes through Pomme de Terre Savanna along side of the lake.
Comment: July 2007 This trail had a wonderful pine scent and was not too difficult. However, I am not a "boat" person and the constant sounds of boat motors took away from my enjoyment. I did like the view of the dam from the point. Take a swimsuit to enjoy the public swimming beach near the parking lot after your hike.
Comment: June 2007 It was a great hike -- lots of sights including a view from the point, wildlife sightings including five deer and a good workout. It was a little confusing about where to start the hike since the trailhead was in a different place than the starting point. The trail was difficult to follow at times although we would eventually find another marked tree.
Comment: June 2007 It was a nice trail. We saw several deer, a huge salamander, turtle and many animal tracks. Take a drink as you are in the woods. My concern is that there needs to be a sign for an emergency way out.
Comment: June 2007 It is a rather easy trail even though it is long. There is a cool little place where the trail leads where you can stand and look at the lake.
Comment: June 2007 We came upon many different grasses and wildflowers including yellow sunflowers and wild petunias, and watched numerous butterflies enjoying the wild butterfly weeds. The hike was partially shady and very enjoyable.
Comment: June 2007 The trail is semi woody with a lot of different grasses, and an abundance of colors from a variety of wildflowers -- yellow, purple and orange. Make sure to go to the point and just relax and watch the boats go by.
Comment: June 2007 The trail seemed to be longer than three miles. The trail itself was easy hiking and very very well marked! Saw turtles, lots of deer and fields of wildflowers. Insect repellent is a must!!!!!
Comment: June 2007 We saw several deer, including one fawn that thought it was hiding, (how cute was that). On the trail, you need to watch for loose rocks. It seemed like longer than three miles. There were lots of pretty flowers in bloom and much shade. We took walking sticks this time that came in handy for us. We are not real physically fit.
Comment: June 2007 TAKE TICK SPRAY!! Our concern was in case of an emergency, there needs to be a marker to get out of the woods, as you are way in the woods. It was pretty and shady with lots of wildlife. An extra bench would be nice. All six of us really enjoyed the trail.
