Hikers' Comments on Discovery Trail
Knob Noster State Park

Month Hiked Comments from participants of the 2007 Trail of the Month Program
Comment. October 2007 Camped on the site next to the trail entrance. Talked to another couple that were doing the trails.
Comment. October 2007 Pretty easy trail. Ended up at the visitor center for a rest and then headed back to the campground.
Comment. September 2007 Almost hiked this trail twice! Our campsite at Knob Noster was very near the trailhead. As we were completing the trail loop, we missed the turnoff back to the campground, following the green arrow instead. Thankfully we realized our mistake pretty quickly. Guess we got an extra .25 miles on this one!!!
Comment. September 2007 This is a great trail to get a taste of hiking in the woods. It's very serene to be so close to the camping area. Check out the visitor center for interesting exhibits.
Comment. September 2007 Trail overlooks a nice small creek where you can, if you look hard enough, see the minnows swimming around. There was no one there to inquire about the trail, so I walked it in reverse. It was easy enough to follow without a map.
Comment. August 2007 I camped literally a few yards away from the trailhead. But I spent a half-hour looking for it.
Comment. August 2007 The path was well-maintained, but deceptively difficult.
Comment. August 2007 Very nice trail. My husband wants to come back and play in the clear creek that runs along part of the trail. Plan extra time to explore the other trails and lakes.
Comment. August 2007 We saw lots of beautiful butterflies. Lots of blackberries and raspberry vines, which my husband showed me how to identify which one was which. We also saw some unique looking flat grass. We stopped at the visitor center that was on our path. I found some interesting facts about what the Indians used to make the different colors that they used. It was very hot 97 degrees.
Comment. July 2007 This trail was short and easy to hike. The shaded trail was a good choice to hike on a hot summer afternoon. We also visited the nature center, which was located nearby.
Comment. July 2007 By the time you get to the end; you'll feel like it was at least a mile all the way around. There were quite a few ups and downs but nothing too challenging. Go when it's dry if you don't mind getting muddy because it can stay pretty humid all along the trail. I regret that I let all the mud and mosquitoes distract me from enjoying it more, but the neat orange-capped mushrooms along the path were always a welcome sight.
Comment. July 2007 It was a long trail and full of butterflies! We ate lunch there, too.
Comment. June 2007 Nice, easy walk through a wooded area. A lot of good photo ops as the trail goes along above a creek.
Comment. June 2007 It was a clean path. It follows above a creek so you may want some bug spray.
Comment. June 2007 BEAUTIFUL!! Babbling brook, landscaping timbers for some steps, rocks for steps, true "nature trail." Ticks!!
Comment. June 2007 The trail is short but has a great view of the creek. We were enjoying our walk when all of a sudden we had helicopters flying over from the nearby air base. After they went over, we all said in unison "cool"!
Comment. June 2007 Nice short challenging trail. Has some steep slippery parts, but is an enjoyable wooded trail.
Comment. May 2007 Neat trail; fun to see stream; saw lots of squirrels, deer and flowers. Our first trail of the program and a great start. The kids loved it. They think it is super fun to find the clues.
Comment. May 2007 A peaceful walk along a meandering stream through woods all the way. I especially liked the idea of using placed rocks in some areas for erosion instead of landscaping tiles. We saw wild petunias, beard tongue, butterfly weed, buttercup, spiderwort, and blue-eyed grass blooming on this trail.
Comment. May 2007 A nice hike for all ages. Walked along the side of a small river most of the time. Saw different types of flowers blooming.
Comment. May 2007 Hike this trail when it is raining. The creek is very interesting when it is swollen and the streams rushing into the creek are fun to observe. We got soaked but enjoyed every minute!
