CATCH HISTORIC BASEBALL GAME AUG. 16 AT
WATKINS WOOLEN MILL STATE PARK AND STATE HISTORIC SITE
JEFFERSON CITY, MO., AUG. 4, 2008 -- Baseball enthusiasts and anyone interested in an afternoon of historical fun can watch a historic game of baseball on Saturday, Aug. 16, at Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site near Lawson. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the match begins at 1 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
The game will feature the Watkins Mill Warpers versus the Walnut Hill Bluestockings of Iowa. The teams will play seven innings by 1870s rules. Visitors are encouraged to try their hand at playing after the match ends. The match will be played on the grounds located near the Mt. Vernon church and Franklin Academy school. Both the church and the school will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. Parking for the match will be located at the church and school parking lot with no parking allowed along the road or on the grass.
