HISTORICAL CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL IS APRIL 12 AT
FIRST MISSOURI STATE CAPITOL STATE HISTORIC SITE
JEFFERSON CITY, MO., APRIL 1, 2008 -- No matter what your age, there will be something of interest for you at the Historical Children's Festival Saturday, April 12, at First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site in St. Charles. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the event is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the historic site, 200-216 South Main St., St. Charles. This family-oriented event is free and open to the public.
Participate in the hands-on activities and play of 1820s children. Activities will include cow milking, butter churning, corn meal pounding, hearth cooking, candle dipping, quill pen writing, storytelling and more. Historical games and toys will be featured, along with costumed re-enactors, barnyard animals and a gunsmithing demonstration. A fur and trapping exhibit will be on display. Kids can take a carriage ride for $3. There will also be a free open house of Missouri's first state Capitol.
First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site served as the meeting place for the state's first legislators from 1821 through 1826. Today, the governmental chambers and dry goods store have been restored to their original appearance.
