MISSOURI STATE PARK ADVISORY BOARD MEETS JAN. 17

JEFFERSON CITY, MO., JAN. 14, 2008 -- The Missouri State Park Advisory Board will meet Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the hotel, located at 415 W. McCarty St. The public is encouraged to attend and participate.

The board, which was appointed by the governor to advise the Missouri Department of Natural Resources on issues relating to state parks, will receive an overview of the division's revenue tracking. Reports will be given on the settlement with AmerenUE over the Taum Sauk reservoir breach and the redevelopment plans for Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park in Reynolds County. Other agenda items include a presentation on the conceptual development plan process for the new state park in Shannon County on the former property of the Alton Box/Presley Conservation Education Center; cell towers in state parks; an update on the threats study for state parks and historic sites; and concession issues. Reports will be given by the Missouri Parks Association and the Missouri State Parks Foundation.

Missouri State Park Advisory Board meetings are typically held during the day. This meeting is being held in the evening to encourage broader public participation. The time change is part of the Department of Natural Resources' efforts to encourage public input on department issues. The advisory board meets four times a year in locations around Missouri.
