LEARN TO ENJOY THE OUTDOORS AT WOW ST. LOUIS ON JUNE 6 AND JUNE 7
JEFFERSON CITY, MO., MARCH 31, 2008 -- Have you ever wanted to learn to camp, fish and canoe or create great meals outdoors? If you answered yes, WOW St. Louis is for you. Enjoy a day filled with outdoor activities at the 2008 WOW St. Louis event in Forest Park on Saturday, June 7. To get the most out of this outdoor experience, camping is available on Friday, June 6.
WOW National Outdoor Recreation and Conservation School is packed with opportunities to learn skills to enhance your outdoor experience. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Bass Pro Shops, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Forest Service, Missouri Department of Conservation, Wonders of Wildlife, National Park Service, St. Louis Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry and Gateway Bank of St. Louis. This year features more exciting courses and an enhanced day camp experience for younger participants.
This event will offer classes in a variety of outdoor skills including archery, canoeing, fishing, woodworking, orienteering, rock climbing, bicycling, outdoor cooking and more. WOW St. Louis is designed to teach participants how to enjoy a wide range of outdoor recreation activities while practicing personal safety and outdoor responsibility. Classes are open to anyone age nine or above.
Advance registration is required, and the deadline to register is May 9. The cost to attend is $15 per person or $25 per family, making it an affordable day of family fun. Financial assistance is also available.
In addition, the Wild Outdoor World Youth Camp is open to kids ages four to eight whose parents are participating in WOW. Led by qualified Department of Conservation staff and volunteers assisted by Senior Scouts from the Girl Scouts Council of Eastern Missouri, District 3, the youth camp will offer your child an exciting day of activities, including fishing, treasure hunting, crafts and games.
The camping experience in Forest Park on Friday night will include a campfire, campfire stories, cooking demonstrations, informal learning stations (bat discovery, Leave No Trace and casting range) and stargazing. Tents will be available to those who don't have one on a first-come, first served basis.
