SPRING NATURE HIKES TO BE HELD AT SAM A. BAKER STATE PARK

JEFFERSON CITY, MO., MARCH 26, 2008 – Discover spring wildflowers or learn about edible plants on guided hikes this spring at Sam A. Baker State Park near Patterson. Take a wildflower hike on April 12 or wild edibles hike on May 17. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, both hikes will begin at 11 a.m. and are free and open to the public.

On the wildflower hike, you will discover the diverse wildflowers found in the park. Join a park naturalist for a leisurely stroll along the popular Shut-ins Trail while learning about the types of flowers, how to identify them, their medicinal and edible purposes and historical folklore.

On the wild edibles hike, you will learn about the different types of edible plants, how to identify them, their medicinal and edible purposes and historical folklore. This hike also will be on the Shut-ins Trail.

Participants for both hikes should meet at the Mudlick Trail trailhead, across from the park store. Wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes and bring along drinking water.
