SECTION OF CHEATHAM ROAD CLOSES IN CUIVRE RIVER STATE PARK

JEFFERSON CITY, MO., MARCH 21, 2008 -- A 2.5-mile section of Cheatham Road that goes through Cuivre River State Park near Troy is currently closed due to the replacement of a bridge over Cuivre River, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources announced today.

Within the park, Cheatham Road is blocked at the junction of Frenchman's Bluff and Cheatham roads. On the other end, access to Cheatham Road from Highway KK is closed off. The closure will impact visitors that normally drive to the Frenchman's Bluff overlook. Access to the overlook is still available on a two-mile loop hiking trail, with parking available at the trailhead by the Stone Shelter Day-Use Area.

Lincoln County has contracted with Bleigh Construction to replace the bridge, which is expected to be reopened by mid-July.

For more information, contact the park at 636-528-7247 or the Department of Natural Resources toll free at 800-334-6946 (voice) or 800-379-2419 (Telecommunications Device for the Deaf). For more information about Missouri state parks and historic sites, visit www.mostateparks.com.
