OPEN HOUSE AND LIVING HISTORY EVENT PLANNED APRIL 5
AT FORT DAVIDSON STATE HISTORIC SITE

JEFFERSON CITY, MO., APRIL 19, 2008 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold a living history event, open house and informational meeting on Saturday, April 5, at Fort Davidson State Historic Site in Pilot Knob. The open house begins at 4 p.m. in the site's visitor center, followed by the meeting at 6 p.m. The informational meeting will address issues related to both the site and Elephant Rocks State Park.

A few pieces of the museum collection not commonly displayed will be available for public viewing at the open house. At the meeting, representatives from the historic site and park will be on hand to provide information about the facilities and to answer questions. Agenda items will include information about the facilities, planned improvements and a recap of the year's accomplishments. The public is invited to share comments about the facilities and current operations.

The informational meeting is part of an ongoing effort by the department to ensure that the public has input on services offered in state parks and historic sites. Light refreshments will be available at both the open house and meeting.

The open house and meeting are being held in conjunction with the site's annual spring living history event. Around 10 a.m., the site is hosting a spring drill and muster of the Confederate 2nd Missouri Artillery. Drilling with cannons and a Confederate camp setting will demonstrate aspects of Civil War life to the visiting public. Also on that day, the site and the Civil War Preservation Trust are sponsoring an annual cleanup day. Anyone can volunteer to help clean up the site.

Fort Davidson State Historic Site's visitor center is located on Highway 221 in Pilot Knob. People requiring special services or accommodations to attend the meeting can make arrangements by calling Fort Davidson State Historic Site at 573-546-3454 or the department toll free at 800-334-6946 (voice) or 800-379-2419 (Telecommunications Device for the Deaf).
