SAM A. BAKER STATE PARK HOSTS 16TH ANNUAL "KEEP BAKER BEAUTIFUL DAY"

JEFFERSON CITY, MO., APRIL 19, 2008 -- Volunteers are needed for the16th annual "Keep Baker Beautiful Day" to be held on Saturday, April 19, at Sam A. Baker State Park near Patterson. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, this event is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All are invited to this special event that recognizes Earth Day and Missouri Beautification Month by getting the park in shape for the upcoming visitation season. In the past, between 100 and 300 volunteers have signed up to help out each year. There will be assignments for all ages. Planting, trail care and litter patrol are just a few of the projects planned for the day. After the work, volunteers will receive a free picnic lunch, a commemorative keepsake and a certificate of appreciation.

Bring a pair of work gloves and drinking water, wear closed-toed shoes and join the fun! Meet at the park's visitor center around 8:30 a.m. to meet other volunteers and get your project assignments. In case of severe or inclement weather, the event will be cancelled. Call the park office at 573-856-4411 by April 17 to register.
