PUBLIC INPUT SOUGHT FOR STATEWIDE HISTORIC PRESERVATION PLAN
JEFFERSON CITY, MO, March 7, 2008 -- The public is invited to participate in Missouri's statewide historic preservation plan, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources announced today.
The planning process occurs every five years and is a call to action for all Missourians to recognize and plan for the preservation of our state's prehistoric and historic resources. The plan establishes broad goals and outlines actions that can be taken by private individuals, local preservation groups and government agencies to preserve and increase appreciation for historic properties in our communities and the state.
Individuals and groups interested in Missouri's history and historic places are invited to attend one of six regional planning meetings. Meetings will be open forums for discussing historic preservation successes, needs and methods. Facilitators will help focus discussion and synthesize goals. All meetings will be cohosted by the Department of Natural Resources' State Historic Preservation Office, Missouri Alliance for Historic Preservation and the community in which they are located. Meeting dates and locations have been set for four regional meetings:
- Thursday, March 13, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Input can also be provided through a statewide historic preservation planning questionnaire. The questionnaire asks individuals to identify threatened historic resource types in their communities and local and statewide preservation needs. The questionnaire can be obtained from the department's State Historic Preservation Office Web site at www.dnr.mo.gov/shpo/ or by calling 800-334-6946.
