NEW SECTION OF TRAIL OPENS IN
ROCK BRIDGE MEMORIAL STATE PARK
JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JAN. 8, 2007 -- Work has been completed on a new section of the Devil's Icebox (boardwalk) Trail at Rock Bridge Memorial State Park in Columbia, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources announced today. The new section of trail replaces part of the trail that was closed due to falling rock in July.
With the completion of this new section, visitors no longer need to use part of the Springbrook Trail as a detour.
At this time, visitors using the trail will walk on a variety of surfaces including dirt, crushed rock (pug), stones and wood. Plans call for making all but the pug surface a boardwalk in the future.
The boardwalk under the rock bridge remains closed for safety reasons. Plans are to build a new viewing access under the rock bridge by connecting to the current boardwalk and rerouting a new section to the other side of the creek under the rock bridge. This new section will also connect to the Sinkhole Trail.
