OPEN HOUSE AND PRESENTATION AT ROUTE 66 STATE PARK IS OCT. 20
JEFFERSON CITY, MO., OCT. 5, 2007 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold an open house Saturday, Oct. 20, to answer questions related to Route 66 State Park near Eureka. The open house is noon to 3 p.m. at the park visitor center, and the public is invited.
Staff from the park will be on hand to provide information about the park and answer questions. The public is invited to share comments about the park and its operations. Refreshments will be served.
In conjunction with the open house, at 1 p.m. visitors can attend a presentation titled "The Mother Road in Missouri: The History of Route 66" by Thomas J. Gubbels, Ph.D. Gubbels will trace the evolution and history of Route 66 in Missouri and its impact on Missouri and lead a question-and-answer session about the famous highway. Gubbels works as a senior historic preservation specialist in the historic preservation section of the Missouri Department of Transportation. He appears as a featured speaker on the "Modern Marvels: Route 66" television program on the History Channel and serves as the highway department's expert on the history of Route 66.
The open house is a part of an ongoing effort by the Department of Natural Resources to ensure that the public has input on services provided in state parks and historic sites.
Route 66 State Park is located two miles east of Eureka off Interstate 44 in St. Louis County.
