FALL ON THE FARM TO BE HELD OCT. 6
AT WATKINS WOOLEN MILL STATE PARK AND STATE HISTORIC SITE

JEFFERSON CITY, MO., SEPT. 28, 2007 -- Celebrate the harvest season at the "Fall on the Farm" event to be held Saturday, Oct. 6, at Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site in Lawson. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Guests can revisit days gone by at the historic Watkins Mill and Bethany Farm. Visitors can join costumed interpreters as they demonstrate life in the 1870s. Activities throughout the day will include corn shelling, historic hand tool demonstrations, cross cut sawing, heritage cooking, sheep shearing, wool dying, seed saving technique demonstrations, a townball game and limited tours of the mill.

Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site is 1,442 acres dedicated to interpreting Bethany Plantation, the 19th century landholdings of Waltus Locket Watkins. The site features Watkins Woolen Mill, the Watkins home and outbuildings, a visitor center, a 100-acre lake, camping, picnicking and a paved bicycle trail. The historic site is located six miles east of Kearney on Highway 92.
