LEARN ABOUT HEMP SEPT. 29 AT BATTLE OF LEXINGTON STATE HISTORIC SITE

JEFFERSON CITY, MO., SEPT. 21, 2007 -- Learn about hemp cultivation and processing on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Battle of Lexington State Historic Site in Lexington. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Friends of the Anderson House, the event is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

The Friends of the Anderson House will explain hemp cultivation in 1850s Lexington. Descriptions of planting and harvesting the crop and demonstrations of braking the hemp and winding it into rope will be given. The culture of the area is reflected in the Oliver Anderson family and their Lexington friends, whom the Friends of the Anderson House will portray. The Anderson House will be open for walking tours at no cost.
