WORKSHOP WILL ASSIST APPLICANTS WITH
FEDERAL OUTDOOR RECREATION GRANTS
JEFFERSON CITY, MO., SEPT. 19, 2007 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold five workshops around the state to assist organizations interested in applying for the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund grants.
Applications for the grants currently are being accepted from local governments and public school districts. Projects can be for the development or renovation of outdoor recreational facilities or for acquisition of park land. The funds are made available through the National Park Service, and a 55 percent match is required. Applications must be postmarked by Nov. 15, 2007.
Funding for this grant cycle has not yet been appropriated by Congress. Should it be appropriated, an estimated $500,000 is expected to be awarded in the fiscal year 2008 cycle.
Following are the dates and times for the workshops:
- Poplar Bluff -- Oct. 2, 1:30 p.m. Poplar Bluff Public Library, 318 North Main St.
- Jefferson City -- Oct. 9, 10 a.m. Missouri Department of Natural Resources Conference Center, 1738 E. Elm St.
- Kansas City -- Oct. 10, 10 a.m., Mid-America Regional Council, 600 Broadway, Suite 300
- Springfield -- Oct. 11, 10 a.m. Missouri State University Alumni Center, Hospitality Room, 300 S. Jefferson Ave.
- St. Louis -- Oct. 18, 11 a.m., Heman Park Community Center, 975 Pennsylvania Ave.
At the workshops, Department of Natural Resources staff will provide information on the grant program, and there will be an open forum between presenter and attendees. Attendance is not required to apply for a grant.
