CAMPER CABINS OFFER NEW CAMPING EXPERIENCE
IN MISSOURI STATE PARKS

JEFFERSON CITY, MO., AUG. 28, 2007-- Visitors to Lake Wappapello State Park near Poplar Bluff can look forward to a new kind of camping experience for Labor Day Weekend, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources announced today. The park now features four new camper cabins. These rustic log cabins provide the experience of camping without a tent or recreational vehicle.

The camper cabins provide comfortable accommodations for up to four adults and two children, with a queen-size bed, a full-size futon and a carpeted loft for sleeping bags. Camper cabins have electricity, heating and air conditioning but do not include water or restrooms. Each cabin has a dining table, ceiling fan and microwave/toaster oven and a small refrigerator. Exterior amenities include a porch bench, picnic table and pedestal grill and campfire grill.

The cabins are located in the park's Ridge Campground so campers can use the campground’s restrooms and showerhouse. Parking is designed for each unit and can accommodate two vehicles and a boat trailer. People preparing to use the camper cabins should bring everything they would for a regular camping trip, including bed linens or sleeping bags, cooking supplies, dish pan and water jug.

The addition of camper cabins is part of the Department of Natural Resources’ efforts to upgrade campground facilities and meet the needs of park users. Camper cabins also can be found at Mark Twain State Park near Stoutsville and Stockton State Park near Stockton. The state park system is primarily funded by the one-tenth-of-one-percent parks, soils and water sales tax, which was approved by Missouri voters.

Camper cabins at Lake Wappapello State Park can be rented year-round. A two- night stay is required on reservations. There is no other camping allowed at the camper cabin site. During the winter months, vault toilets and water are available at the park. Camper cabins at Lake Wappapello State Park can be reserved by calling toll free at 877-422-6766 or by going online at www.mostateparks.com.
