Trail Ride 2002 Song
by Bonnie Howard, Katy Trail Volunteer
(sung to the tune of Tom Dooley)
Met up on the Katy Trail, just to take a ride
Met up on the Katy Trail, my cycle at my side
JUST SINGING
Lift up your heads you riders
Lift up your heads and yell
I’m a lean, mean, bikin machine and I’m ready for this trail
Monday morning early, we hit that dusty line
60 miles of hot, dry trail but in Hermann we got to dine
AND DRINK WINE
Lift up your heads you riders
Lift up your heads and yell
I’m a lean, mean, bikin machine and I’m ready for this trail
Tuesday is was cooler, only ninety-one
We rode 54 miles that day just to taste some Hartsburg fun
OH SING NOW
Lift up your heads you riders
Lift up your heads and yell
I’m a lean, mean, bikin machine and I’m ready for this trail
Wednesday was a short day, at 8’o'clock we began
Rocheport for a side-trip, Franklin was the end
JUST A SINGING
Lift up your heads you riders
Lift up your heads and yell
I’m a lean, mean, bikin machine and I’m ready for this trail
Tried my luck at gamblin on that Wednesday night
I lost all my money and had to hock my bike
OH WELL NOW
Lift up your heads you riders
Lift up your heads and yell
I’m a lean, mean, bikin machine and I’m ready for this trail
Thursday is was up those hills and down the other side
That Katy Trail to Sedalia was a roller coaster ride
WELL NOW SING
Lift up your heads you riders
Lift up your heads and yell
I’m a lean, mean, bikin machine and I’m ready for this trail
Now there’s only one day left on the Katy with my friends
Now there’s only one day left, we’re sorry it has to end
BUT OH WELL NOW
Lift up your heads you riders
Lift up your heads and yell
I’m a lean, mean, bikin machine and I RODE THE KATY TRAIL!
