Forest Lake Trail Dedication/Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

4/22/2015 | Thousand Hills State Park | Kirksville, MO

Come to the park for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first phase of the new Forest Lake Trail. The dedication ceremony will be held at the Forest Lake Trail trailhead, located behind the restaurant. The ceremony will start with a few words from park superintendent Brent L Steacy and representatives from the Forest Lake Area Trail System (FLATS) organization.

The first phase of Forest Lake Trail marks the beginning of an ambitious project to connect Thousand Hills State Park with the City of Kirksville via a dedicated walking/bicycling trail. The trail features a concrete surface and an impressive pedestrian bridge constructed of steel and wood. The bridge has decorative petroglyph images cut from steel plates.

The completed portion of the trail is 0.60 miles long and connects Campground 2, the petroglyph shelter, the swimming beach and the concession area of the park. The concession area has overnight rental cabins, a full-service restaurant and a marina operation.
