Pommer Symposium and Concert

4/4/2014 to 4/5/2014 | Deutschheim State Historic Site | Hermann, MO

“Music washes the soul of the dust of daily living.” So says a German proverb from Gasconade County. Come to the historic site for an event filled with music and history in historic Hermann. Celebrate the life and works of Missouri musician William H. Pommer (1851-1937). The grandson of Caroline Pommer, who built the site’s Pommer-Gentner House in 1840, Pommer was a classically trained musician, studying in Vienna and Leipzig, Germany, before returning to St. Louis as a composer and performer. His legacy in music education extends from the St. Louis public school system to Columbia College and the University of Missouri. Well known in Missouri during his lifetime, many of his compositions were published and performed. This event will be a rare opportunity to experience his music and learn about his life and works. The event extends over two days with concerts Friday and Saturday and a symposium Saturday afternoon. Click here to read the news release.
