1/1/2014 | Castlewood State Park | Ballwin, MO
This 3.25-mile hike on River Scene Trail will be led by Michael Brady, a park volunteer who is an avid birder. The hike will start on the trail along the Meramec River, and may climb wood steps to the bluffs for a panoramic view of the river valley, weather permitting. “Eagles are probably a guarantee, and other raptors like red-shouldered hawks,” Brady said. “Pileated woodpeckers are really active in the winter. People always get a kick out of seeing them.”
Hike time: 9 a.m.
Meeting location: First parking lot on the right past the railroad tracks
This hike is one of many First Day Hikes taking place in Missouri State Parks. For more information about all of your hiking options, click here.
